Javelina Men Edged by UIW, 75-67

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - For the second time in four days, the Texas A&M-Kingsville men's basketball team was edged by Incarnate Word in Lone Star Conference meeting falling 75-67 at the McDermott Center.
The Javelinas (9-8) move to 5-5 in conference games and are now fourth in the Lone Star Conference. Incarnate Word (12-6) improves to 8-2 on the season in the LSC and is atop the standings.
The tight contest saw 17 lead changes with four ties. The Cardinals followed up a 51.8% shooting percentage in Wednesday's win with 48% performance Saturday. The percentages are the first and third highest allowed by the stingy Javelina defense this season.
Kingsville led by five twice early in the first seven minutes. Each time came on the result of a 3-point basket by Dwight Taylor who finished three treys. Taylor finished with 12 points in the game.
UIW answered with a 17-6 run to jump out to a 24-18 lead with less than seven minutes to go in the half. Mitchell Badillo's three ended the run.
The Javelinas refused to go away taking a 28-26 lead on a pair of free throws by Marshall Bonds III, who had nine first half points. He finished with 11.
The Hoggies went into halftime leading 34-33 after a Jamahl Brown basket with 31 seconds remaining in the half.
UIW scored the first seven points of the second half to build a 6-point, 40-34, advantage.
Following a 3-point play by Adonis Bailey, who followed up his career-best 22 points on Wednesday with a team-best 13 on Saturday, Kingsville seized the lead with a rare 4-point possession. After Adam Mughmaw hit a free throw and rebounded his miss on the second, he kicked the ball to Reid Wallace at the top of the key. Wallace drained a trey for a 41-40 lead.
Mughmaw led TAMUK with six rebounds off the bench.
The Cardinals took the lead for good with a 9-2 run that began with the game tied at 46 with 12:43 left. After a Dionelle Rucker drove to the basket, Denzell Livingston converted a 3-point play. Livingston made it a 7-point game moments later with jumper.
Kingsville pulled back to within 57-54 with baskets in the paint by Adam Mughmaw and Bailey with eight minutes left. The Javelinas would get no closer.
Five Cardinals scored double figures. Rucker had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Livingston, who had 26 on Wednesday, had 14. Kyle Hittle added 13 and Lyn'Dale Brown with 12 points. Andrew Corley finished with 11.
Kingsville struggled with foul trouble as Rashad Basey and Jamahl Brown each fouled out. Adonis Bailey had four. UIW enjoyed the foul trouble to make 35 free throws hitting 25. Kingsville made it to the line just 22 times hitting 14.
Kingsville stays on the road next week heading to Cameron on Thursday and Midwestern State Saturday.
