KINGSVILLE, Texas - Texas A&M-Kingsville track athletes Catrell Butler and Katy Trevino earned Lone Star Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors for their performance at the Cactus Cup at Javelina Stadium last Saturday.
Butler broke his own meet record at the Cactus Cup in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 en route to a first place finish. His time is the fastest in the LSC this season by nearly a tenth of a second and provisionally qualifies him for NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Butler's time is the fourth fastest in the nation among Division II runners this season as of last week's action.
Trevino, who shared the women's track honor with Daniela Anane-Bediakoh of Incarnate Word, took home the gold in two individual running events and was on the winning 4x100 relay. In the women's 400-meter dash, she set a season best of 56.20 - which is currently the top time in the LSC this season, and in the 200-meter dash she finished with a time of 25.18. The women's 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Cherrelle Richardson, Amber Perry, Trevino, and Santia Deck won first place with a season best time of 47.41. The time is second in the LSC this season.
The track team is competing this weekend at LSU.
