CORPUS CHRISTI - Local company, World Record Events Texas Style, is hosting a competition this weekend to see if anyone can beat the current world record for the most jalapenos eaten in a single minute. The creators of the company say they started their business to bring fun, family events to the citizens of Corpus Christi.
The current world record is held by a man from Chicago who ate 16 jalapenos in a minute. "This is a record that should be held by a Texas," said World Record Events Texas Style co-owner, Theresa Walters. The current record holder ate pickled jalapenos but Walters says they're going to use regular, raw jalapenos. To break the record, each veggie must be at least three inches long; the participant also cannot drink any water during the actual record-breaking attempt.
"This record will be broken one way or another," Walters said. She says she and her family are determined to break this record, even if it means giving the contest a whirl their selves.
The event isn't just a competition, however, it's also a fundraiser. The local chapter of Dive Pirates will be selling raffle tickets at the competition to raise money for people with disabilities. The foundation supports, trains, equips and gives diving equipment to these disabled divers in hopes that, through scuba diving, they can overcome obstacles.
The world record event will be Saturday and Sunday near the Packery Channel off of Zahn Road from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.. For more information about the event, or to register for the competition, you can call the Walters at (361) 500-7146 email at email@example.com.
