It's Your Money: Sheinberg Tools

CORPUS CHRISTI - Andrew Sheinberg now runs Sheinberg Tools on Agnes, which opened in 1957. It has come a long way from Andrew's father selling tools out of the back of his pick up truck to auto garages. By 1960, Sheinberg Tools began working with the department of defense selling tools to the navy.
"As Vietnam rolled around the army started doing repair work on helicopters and he started selling to the Army Depot," says Andrew Sheinberg, Sheinberg Tool President.
And that business relationship has continued for more than 50 years.
"Over the last 40-50 years of selling we still see some of the same items that were bought 30-40 years ago being bought now," says Sheinberg.
Not all tools used out at Corpus Christi Army Depot are purchased at Sheinberg's.
"Many of the items that they use over and over that have mass use they will get from the governments own purchasing system, the GSA," says Sheinberg.
Sheinberg says his store helps out CCAD by purchasing specialty tools or being here locally when they are in a pinch.
But those purchases funded through the Department of Defense, brought in more than a quarter of a million dollars to Sheinberg Tools in the first 9 months of last year according to fedspending.org. Sheinberg says he is pleased to know that some of our tax dollars are spent here in the community.
"We are lucky in Corpus Christi to have such a large presence of the Army Depot and the Navy," says Sheinberg.
Continuing his father's contracts with the federal government makes him feel just a little patriotic.
