Islanders Complete Three-Game Sweep of New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - The Texas A&M - Corpus Christi baseball team (15-15, 6-3 Southland) was able to pick up its second 10-inning win of the weekend, as it completed the three-game sweep of New Orleans (8-17, 1-8) with a 3-2 win at Maestri Field on Sunday.

Cody Stephens was the hero in the series finale for the Islanders, as he had only one hit, but drove in all three of the runs for the visitors on the day.

Once again, the pitching was solid for A&M-Corpus Christi, especially out of the bullpen. Jacob Dorris came on and set down the first nine runners he faced, eventually going a career-high 3 2-3 innings without giving up a run. Kaleb Keith then came on and gave up just one hit in his 1 1-3 innings of work to pick up his second win of the series.

Darron McKigney picked up a tough loss for the Privateers, as he went 5 1-3 innings, giving up just one run on four hits. Offensively for UNO it was Samuel Capielano completing his strong series against the Islanders, as he went 3-for-5 to give him eight knocks on the series.

After a scoreless first inning, UNO pushed across the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. After consecutive singles, Zach Liberto chopped a ground ball to the shortstop, but it was hit just slow enough for the Islanders not to be able to turn two, bringing the runner in from third to put the Privateers up 1-0.

They then extended their lead in the bottom of the third, as Skapura was unable to cap off a 1-2-3 inning with Resse Canter blasting a two-out shot over the right field wall to make it a 2-0 game.

However, Stephens struck for his first two RBIs in the fifth to tie the game up. With the bases loaded and two outs, Stephens flipped one over the head of the first baseman to bring in Brandon Tierney and Josh Garza to knot the game up at two in the top of the fifth.

The scoring came to a drastic halt at that point though, as Dorris and McKigney went pitch-for-pitch over the next three innings to send the game to the ninth still tied at two apiece with only one hit for either team from the sixth through the eighth.

After a scoreless top half of the ninth, UNO threatened to end the game in the bottom of the ninth. The Privateers led things off with a leadoff walk, but the pinch runner was picked off on a snap throw to first by Russell Vaughan for the first out.

However, UNO continued to make some noise, as the next two batters got on base and eventually moved up to second and third on a ground out. This brought on Keith in a tight spot, but he was able to strand the runners with a punchout to end the inning and send the game to extras.

A leadoff double by pinch hitter Frankie Salas in the top of the 10th, got things started for the Islanders. After Zach Gibson came on as a pinch runner, he moved up on an error by McKigney, as the pitcher threw the ball into center field on a pickoff attempt to move Gibson up to third.

Stephens then drove him in later in the inning, as he laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring Gibson in for the eventual winning run, leading the Islanders to their first weekend sweep of the season. Despite the

The Islanders will now cap off their six-game road trip Wednesday, as they travel to Texas-Pan American for their seventh and final game against the Broncs.
