Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team suffered its first losing streak of the season after losing a 72-58 game to the Chicago State Cougars on Saturday. The Islanders lost to Drake on Friday and then to the Cougars at the Air Force Classic.

The loss drops TAMUCC to 4-3 on the year while the Cougars improved to 4-6 on the season.

The first half was back-and-forth between the two teams as the Islanders were down early and battled back to take the lead before falling behind at the end of the period. With the game tied, Chicago State went on an 8-1 run to take an 18-11 lead with 8:19 left in the half.

Shaye Montgomery and Myeisha Myles made a strong push to get TAMUCC back into the contest and give them the lead following a 16-2 run. Montgomery made a pair of three pointers around a Myles lay-in to get them within a 20-19 score. Myles then ran off four consecutive baskets to give the Islanders a 27-20 lead and its biggest lead of the game. The Cougars responded with a 12-3 streak to finish the half and send the game to halftime trailing by a 32-30 score.

Myles led the team in the first half with 10 points while Montgomery followed close behind with nine points. The Cougars had three players in double digits as Alyssa Waldon scored 17 points, Courtney Waldon had 13 and Elana Wroten scored 10 points.

In the second half, the Cougars picked up where they left off, outscoring the Islanders 23-8 over the first seven minutes for a 55-38 lead. TAMUCC was unable to stifle the Chicago State offense long enough to make a run and could not get any closer than 12 points the rest of the way.

Myles led all Islanders in scoring with 14 points. Deziree Green was second with 11 while Montgomery finished with 10 points in the game. Myles also led the team in rebounding with seven with Green adding six boards. The Cougars' Alyssa Waldon finished with a game-high 24 points.

TAMUCC has the next week off and will not play again until Sunday, Dec. 13 against Incarnate Word. The game is set for a 2:00 PM start and will be on campus at the Dugan Wellness Center.
