CORPUS CHRISTI - Tony Graystone has agreed to a three-year contract extension as the head coach of the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi volleyball program, Director of Athletics Scott Lazenby announced today. The extension will keep Graystone at the helm of the Islanders through the 2015 season.

"The progress that our volleyball program has seen in Coach Graystone's tenure has been impressive," Lazenby said. "We're eager to see Islanders Volleyball continue to grow under his guidance over the next three years."

Graystone has improved his team's win total in each of his four seasons on the Island, culminating with this season's 21-11 mark that set a school record. The Islanders won 12 Southland matches and finished in third place in the conference, both first-time accomplishments for Texas A&M - Corpus Christi. Since taking over the program, the Islanders have improved their national RPI by 192 spots, making them the most improved Division I team in the country over that time.

"Our program took a big step forward last year," Graystone said, "but there is still work to do. We no longer feel like we're rebuilding a program and can now focus on winning the Southland Conference and qualifying for the NCAA tournament. I'd like to thank Scott Lazenby for his continued faith in me to lead Islanders Volleyball toward that goal.

The Islanders had two players garner All-Southland Conference honors this season, with Shannon Hullum earning first team recognition and Brooke Alverson taking home second team honors. Brianna Brink also collected honorable mention. In his time as the Islanders head coach, he has seen three players earn First Team All-Southland recognition and five players recognized overall.

The team has also excelled in the classroom under Graystone's leadership, with Hullum and Logen Bourque earning Southland All-Academic honors in 2012. Those two were among eight players to be named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the conference in the fall, as nearly half the team finished with at least a 3.0 grade point average.

Graystone has a career record of 370-132 over his 14 seasons as a head coach. Prior to arriving on the Island, Graystone was one of the top volleyball coaches in Division II history, leading West Texas A&M to a 315-61 mark in his 10 years atop the Lady Buffs program, reaching 300 wins faster than any coach in D-II history.
