Island Patrol Boat

CORPUS CHRISTI- Many recent crimes are being reported out on the island. Police say easy access onto people's properties from the canals may be the reason why...
Police say thieves wisk in, take what they want, and speed off in their boats without being seen. Many residents say if they had more patrols on the waters, they would feel much safer.

A local resident, Judy Mirzadegan says, "if they thought there was a boat around checking, then they might think twice about doing it." Maybeth Christensen, from the Padre Isles Property Owners Association says " we have had things stolen off the boat side many times as well as people speeding the waters."

The Corpus Christi Police Department is considering placing a patrol boat out on the island to cut down on crime. The catch is... homeowners will have to pay for it.

Police say officers patrolling out on water will cut down on thefts and cut down on the number of drunk boat owners out on the water. Captain Josh Swain with the Corpus Christi Police Department tells us plans to get the boat are very preliminary. The Padre Isles Property Owners Association says this issue will be discussed at future meetings. They hope the marine craft will help cut crimes like these out on the island.
