CORPUS CHRISTI -- When Nick Kelley walked through his front door Monday afternoon he probably never expected to find a stranger inside pointing a gun at him, but that's what happened.
A man wearing a ski mask pointed a gun at Kelley, 24, and pulled the trigger, striking him once in the right shoulder before taking off, police said. Authorities said the masked man was burglarizing the house on Deforrest Street when Kelley came home.
Police said Kelley's girlfriend, Nicole, went to the convenience store for a few minutes and left the front door unlocked.
Police said the handgun belonged to Kelley.
Kelley's uncle, David Castleberry, said the house was ransacked, but didn't know if anything was stolen.
Kelley is recovering at an area hospital where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man, 5' 8" to 6', with brown eyes, a black ski mask, a white shirt and blue jeans.
