INGLESIDE -- To the ire of many residents, city councilors on Tuesday approved a request from Flint Hills Resources to reclassify a piece of property near 1069 an industrial zone.
The 5 to 1 vote cleared the way for the refining company to build an industrial facility on the 650-acres it purchased on the outskirts of the city across from the bay.
Flint Hills insists that it has no plans to build anything on the property in the immediate future although it would not rule out an expansion at a later date.
If Flint Hills decides to build a refinery, additional hearings would be required, representatives with the company said.
