CORPUS CHRISTI - An Ingleside father and his 3 year-old son are shaken up after a fire destroyed parts of their home this morning.
The blaze broke out around 11 am on the 2300 block of Westlake Circle South. Jesse Martinez and his youngest son, Christian, were home when the fire started.
"He grabbed the boy ran out the back door and he proceeded to get ahold of his neighbors to call 911," said Captain John Meenaghan, Ingleside VFD.
"I got a call at work for Mandy who also lives there with my son, stating that my son's house was on fire, so immediately I ushed over here," said Jovita Martinez, homeowner's mother.
With the help from Aransas Pass, fire crews were able to put out the fire with in 10 minutes, but even with the quick response it's estimated the fire caused about $30,000 worth of damage.
"The main fire load was in the front of the house the smoke damage is throughout the entire house," said Capt. Meenghan.
The Martinez's did have insurance and are just thankful everyone made it out safely.
"The most important thing here is that everyone here is okay the house can be replaced, can be repaired what we are more concerned about is everyone's well-being, " said Martinez.
As the father begins to salvage what's left for him and his three sons, a fire investigator continues to work to figure out what caused the fire.
"They have interviewed the little boy who was inside the house, so we will let that investigation continue and let them decide what the cause of the fire was," said Capt. Meenghan.
While investigators haven't determined a cause, Jovita Martiez believes it was electrical.
The family is asking for the community's help donating clothing for the three boys that lived there. They are ages 3, 10, & 12. The community os working on collecting clothing items and other needs. More information on that effort should soon be found at the following link - here.
