CORPUS CHRISTI -- Authorities on Tuesday impounded a car they believe is connected to a weekend hit-and-run that left a Corpus Christi man seriously injured.
Public records show the 2012 Ford Focus is registered to local environmental activist Patricia Suter, 87. The Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge is named after her and her late husband.
Suter's son, Hal, said he and his mother are cooperating with police, adding that his mother is a little shaken up. Their attorney, Mark DiCarlo, said there are some "unusual circumstances," about the case, adding that the public will know Suter's story soon enough.
Richard Leshin, who was riding his bicycle on Ocean Drive Saturday morning when a car hit him from behind, said he hopes whoever is responsible gets more than a slap on the hand. "Right now, my first impression would be to the maximum [punishment], but if the facts are otherwise I'd certainly consider them."
Police have not yet arrested anyone or even named a suspect.
