NUECES COUNTY - At least 8 people are now in custody after a chase down Highway 77 ended near Driscoll. An officer first tried to pull over a GMC truck near Bishop just after 1:30 this afternoon.
The driver refused to stop and exited the highway onto County Road 79, heading towards County Road 18. It's believed at least 18 people bailed out of the truck to flee into the brush.
Four women were caught immediately. The chief of police for one department was able to track down four others and called for backup.
Unfortunately, the Department of Public Safety helicopter is not available today to help out in the search.
Border Patrol and the Nueces Co. Sheriff's Office is assisting in the search.
