CORPUS CHRISTI -- Oso Creek Park is not the place to go dump your trash.
If it seems obvious, it's supposed to.
It's plastered on signs all along Cimarron Road behind the King's Crossing neighborhood.
The city even put a roadblock up to keep people from backing their trucks in and dumping their refuse.
So when a KRIS 6 News viewer sent us pictures of heaps of garbage on what was supposed to be a pristine nature hike, we decided to go check it out ourselves.
And sure enough, we were greeted by trash.
There were tires, plastic cups, what looked like a couch, and even insulation.
So we went to the city and asked--what's the deal?
"I think it's just historically, just a spot folks have gone," said Derek Herzog with the city's Parks and Recreation Department. "And it just got worse and worse and worse."
It turns out the city has known about this dumping hot spot for quite a while; and they say they're doing what they can to get things cleaned up.
But they also say it's ultimately up to whoever is responsible to clean up their act--literally.
"It is a problem, absolutely," Herzog said. "And we're really hoping that the public can get the word out that basically--it's not allowed. This isn't something that we can do. We don't have these sites that are popular to say, 'Hey we can dump here.' We have a city dump for that."
The city says if they could have 24-7 security patrolling the area, they would.
But since that's not an option, they're asking the public to help them out; and to consider a more appropriate place to get rid of garbage--in a trash can, where it belongs.
