IceRays to Send Select Team to 2011 Chowder Cup

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Corpus Christi IceRays are pleased to announce that the team has been entered into the 2011 John Cunniff Chowder Cup Junior ‘A' Elite Division which will kick off in Massachusetts on July 20th. The tournament has no affiliation with the regular season roster and players entered in the tournament vary from leagues such the NAHL, USHL, NCAA, QMJHL, as well as NHL drafted players.
The five-day tournament will be an opportunity for the team's players to showcase their talents to many college scouts in attendance. The IceRays have been drawn into bracket five along with Patriot Hockey, Players First Hockey, and Team Alberta. There are a total of 14 brackets each comprised of four teams for a total of 56 teams in the Junior ‘A' Elite Division.
The team will play three games within its bracket beginning on July 21st at 1:40 PM ET against Patriot Hockey in Walpole, MA. Corpus Christi's second game will come against Players First Hockey on July 22nd at 3:30 PM ET in Foxboro, MA. The preliminary round concludes against Team Alberta on Saturday, July 23rd at 12:10 PM ET in Walpole.
The IceRays Chowder Cup showcase team will be led by Justin Quenneville and Ryan Bennett.
"With the reputation, competition, and success of the Chowder Cup over the years, we feel that our young players will be able to showcase their talents to even more collegiate programs," said Quenneville. "Our team will be comprised of select current players from our 2010-11 NAHL season, as well as a core of signed (tendered) players for our upcoming season, and additional recruited junior eligible players."
Some players from last year's squad include Colton Saucerman, Pheonix Copley, Terry Portra, Seth Blair, Josh Obregon, and Cody Milligan.
From the tendered list of players, Joe Ginley, Cameron Holland, Christian Elsborg, and Chris Taff will join the squad.
