CORPUS CHRISTI - The city council approved Brass Real Estate's proposal to rework the coliseum, which would pave the way for the team to come back to its original home along the bayfront.
The Icerays played in the coliseum for six seasons, and had a pretty successful run there in terms of attendance. They once held the league record for consecutive sellouts with 82. A lot has to happen before the team moves back in, but just the thought of a return gets IceRays GM Pat Dunn all fired up. After all, he played there too.
"This is a big deal for us to have our own home. It's great news for us tonight, although we're not going to be playing there tomorrow," Dunn said. "We had some great memories there in the Memorial Coliseum. I was here from the get-go and lived many wonderful nights in that building. I'm hoping to bring that back to Corpus Christi for the players that haven't seen the first few years of Corpus Christi hockey and they'll be in for a great shock."
