CORPUS CHRISTI - On Wednesday afternoon I spent some time with Hector "H-Train" Munoz during his open workout at Paragon. The very first thing I noticed was how great of shape Munoz was in for his upcoming fight on March 23rd when he'll headline Rock's Extreme MMA II at the Exhibit Hall of the American Bank Center.

"I got the body of young fighter but the mind of an older fighter and the close you can get to putting those two together, that's what separates the world champions," said Munoz.

In between kick boxing sessions Munoz shared stories of how he first got started in MMA. He joked about being 17-years old and telling Rock that he was gonna fight in a cage, now 15-years later and Munoz is headlining one of Rock's cards while looking to improve his professional record to an impressive 11-4.

"Bottom line I wanna get to the next level, it's not just winning it's looking good doing it," said Munoz, who says he feels like this is his year to grab the attention of the UFC.

His opponent Gabriel Vasquez will be no walk in the park, Munoz compared him to a brawler, saying that of his 13 or so fights, not one has reached a judges decision.

"He puts the throttle down and let's do and I prepared and I plan to finish him in the first round," said Munoz.

Munoz, who is 5-1 when fighting in the Coastal Bend, also told me he's not just fighting for himself but for the city of Corpus Christi.

"I take it personally, I realize they work hard and can spend their money on anything they want and so I know I gotta fight and perform and I want them to come out and go man that guy really put on a show and I just want them to walk away knowing they got the best 155 pound fighter in the world right here in Corpus Christi, Texas," said Munoz.

Fights are slated to begin at 7pm on Saturday the 23rd. There are still tickets available; those interested should inquire at the American Bank Center Ticket Offices.

A portion of the proceeds from the fight will be donated to the Corpus Christi Parks and Rec department.
