CORPUS CHRISTI - Every relationship has its struggles but for Valerie and Jerry Hudgens, their challenges have only brought them closer.
"I'm a cancer survivor, in fact, I've got metastatic bone cancer," explained Jerry Hudgens.
"It's been quite a journey for us as a couple and also as a family. It's been really challenging but absolutely well worth it," said Valerie Hudgens.
Jerry has battled stage four cancer for the past three and a half years. During that time, his wife was getting her Masters of Science in Nursing. Today she graduated with her biggest fan in attendance.
"I said, 'Honey I'm so embarrassed to admit this but do you remember that we really didn't think that you would be here, that you wouldn't see me graduate or walk across the stage?'" said Valerie.
Despite his ailing health, Jerry wanted to afford her the ability to continue his legacy and urged her to proceed with her schooling.
"It's actually been something to take her mind off of my health and also me to take my mind off it as well," admitted Jerry.
"It's really important for me to be a good role model for our family," explained Valerie.
They've managed to maintain a balancing act by giving each other 100 percent every single day.
"The hardest part other than school and Jerry battling cancer is just the thought of not having him," Valerie admitted.
"I'm just so proud of her today and this is just a special day for both of us," Jerry said.
