FALFURRIAS - Border Patrol agents trying to stop human smugglers found themselves in a dangerous spot as their vehicles were rammed this week.
Out near Encino, the driver of a Chevy Silverado pulled over for an agent on Highway 281. Once the truck stopped several people took off running.
The driver decided to put the truck in reverse in order to ram the agent's vehicle. The truck then took off through a gate before the driver bailed out. Agents were able to track down several Guatamelan citizens in the country illegally.
In another incident the driver of a Chevy Suburban rammed a Border Patrol unit parked in front of the SUV to prevent an escape. The driver and one immigrant who bailed out were arrested at the scene along Highway 281 near the Brooks and Hidalgo County lines. Officials did not say how many others got away.
