CORPUS CHRISTI - Four wrestlers from the Coastal Bend earned a medal at the State Wrestling tournament Saturday. Beeville's Rogelio Salazar made history - he became the first wrestler from his school to win a state championship. Salazar won gold in the boys class 4A 113lb weight class.
Ray's Christine Chessher took home a silver medal in the girls 4A 215lb division. Another female wreslter from Ray took home a medal - Lucy Hamilton finished 3rd in the 138lb weight class. King's Lexie Escamilla also took home a bronze medal with her 3rd place finish in the 5A 110lb division.
Several wreslters from the area just missed out on a medal. King's Fabian Mendez finished 5th in the boys 5A 138lb division.
King's Kiley Gelabert finished 4th in girls 5A - 119lb. Naomi Ruiz, also from King, finished fourth in girls 5A - 148lb. Carroll's Jovanna Cortez was another fourth place finisher, in girls class 5A - 138lb. Beeville's Danielle Perez finished 6th in the girls 4A 102lb division.
