FLOUR BLUFF - The Hornets may be the most overlooked team in the area during preseason. And they're just fine with it.
But I'm not, after watching these guys practice I can safely say that they have the talent to make a deep run. Dual threat Quarterback Kolton Mims is back and healthy, after guiding the Hornets to the State 7 on 7 tournament for the first time ever.
Along with Mim's in the backfield is the Flour Bluff Three Headed Monster of Reggie Garza, Charles Gaines, and Tommy Martin, who are easily three of the best backs in the area.
"We are pretty strong all over, we have never really passed the ball but I feel like we are gonna come out slinging it this year and throw it a lot more, but we also have our power running game, and we are gonna run it and run hard," said Mims.
"This is one of the best tandem's we have ever had, we have Tommy our sophomore he's really fast good luck trying to catch him, we got me I am a little bit of balance power and speed and then we got Charlie Gaines, big boy, he gonna run yall over," said Garza.
The one question mark heading into the preseason was there offensive line, but when I saw 6'7" Aaron Ploeger knocking defensive players around I know that area was just fine.
"Well our offensive line is working hard to be the best we can be," said Ploeger.
"Number 75 is a beast he is huge and I love running behind him the offensive line is gonna be really good this year," added Garza.
Expect the Hornets to contend for the District Title, Alice and Miller should be their toughest tests.
