CORPUS CHRISTI - The way to tell a pretender from a contender is pretty simple, listen to what those around you are saying. If they seem intimidated by a certain team than that team is probably the real deal. And when you say Moody Baseball, opponents typically cringe, knowing the Trojans are year in and year out a State Power.
"We're put on a pedestal and that's the best thing for us because we have to live up to that and it's always a good thing to have a target on your back because then you have to perform and that's the best thing in the playoffs," said Catcher Mike Cantu.
And Moody rolls into the postseason targeted for a reason after finishing district play undefeated, never mind they are the 10th ranked team in Texas.
"You gotta put it out every day and work on playing together and winning like we always do," said Infielder Ricky Gonzalez.
The Trojans will face Roma in a Best of 3 series with Game 1 on Thursday night in Roma, Game 2 will be on Friday Night at Cabaniss Field.
"We're still gonna take our same approach every game and take every game like it's our last one and play till the 42 outs are over," said Pitcher Kenny Saenz.
Another advantage for this group is the fact that they have been in some wars on the diamond and feel as though they are battle tested.
"Them close games gives us confidence, you win those games and its big because you don't start to press you don't feel the anxiety of the moment and you just play your average game like we say here at Moody," said Saenz.
