AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The Texas House panel considering impeachment of a University of Texas System regent meets again Monday in Austin to continue deliberations.
Panel co-chair Rep. Carol Alvarado, a Houston Democrat, says she doesn't know if the panel will proceed on formal impeachment of Regent Wallace Hall.
The Select Committee on Transparency in State Agency Operations voted in May that grounds exists to impeach Hall over his efforts to oust the president of the system's flagship Austin campus. The panel now must write formal charges to send to the full House.
University of Texas President Bill Powers in July agreed under pressure from outgoing Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa to step down in June 2015.
If impeached, Hall could be the first governor-appointed official removed from office in state history.
