Hooks Snap Losing Skid with 4-1 Win over Frisco

CORPUS CHRISTI - Brady Rodgers snapped a six-game personal losing streak and Jonathan Meyer had three hits as Corpus Christi defeated Frisco 4-1 Friday at Whataburger Field before 5,980.
Rodgers (2-9), the Astros' third-round pick out of Arizona State two years ago, allowed four hits and a walk. He fanned four and forty-six of his 70 pitches were strikes.

David Rollins earned a four-inning save. The former Toronto prospect, who played collegiately at Houston's San Jacinto College, struck out six.

Corpus Christi (1-3 Texas League second half) made noise in the first but couldn't score. Ruben Sosa drew a one-out walk and swiped third after Meyer's single pushed him into scoring position. Alex Gonzalez popped M.P. Cokinos up to first and fanned Carlos Perdoma.

Frisco (1-2) drew first blood, professional baseball home run leader Joey Gallo dropping a full-count offering from Rodgers onto the right-field berm for his fifth Double-A bomb and 26th overall.

The Hooks had first and third with one down again during the second and came away empty. Tyler Heineman (lead-off single) was thrown out at third by Gonzalez while attempting to return to the bag on Jordan Scott's bunt. Delino DeShields, Jr., then fanned.

The third proved profitable as Corpus Christi took a 2-1 lead. Sosa and Meyer singled and both ultimately scored, Sosa on Perdoma's infield single, Meyer by eluding the tag of catcher Tomas Telis on the return throw of Jio Mier's shallow sacrifice fly to right.

The Hooks posted another crooked number in the fourth, with two runs on four singles. Sosa and Meyer contributed RBIs; Telvin Nash and DeShields tallied.

Gonzalez (1-2), who worked into the fifth, was tagged for 12 singles. Texas' 2013 first-round selection from Oral Roberts walked two and whiffed a pair.
Odubel Herrera singled twice and doubled for Frisco.

Saturday's pitching matchup features Mike Hauschild (1-2) of the Hooks vs. Alec Asher (6-6). The first 2,500 fans receive a Hooks Hunting Camo Cap from IBC Bank. Game time is 7:10 for Salute to Military Night and Telemundo stars Daniel Sarcos and Azucena Cierco will be on hand to meet their fans.
