Hooks Open Road Trip with 7-2 Win at San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO - Starting pitcher David Rollins allowed two earned runs in six innings and the Hooks scored four late insurance runs as Corpus Christi stopped San Antonio 7-2 on Father's Day before 3,059 at Wolff Stadium.

Rollins (1-2) allowed two first inning runs to San Antonio, which scored on a Jason Hagerty double and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Austin Hedges. After the Hedges fly-out, Rollins would allowed just one more Mission to reach base.

San Antonio starter Josh Geer (2-7) was almost as good, limiting Corpus Christi to three unearned runs on five hits in seven innings. Nolan Fontana led off the fourth with a base hit, and an error by shortstop Brian Bixler allowed Andrew Aplin to reach and put runners on the corners with no outs.

M.P. Cokinos singled home Fontana and two batters later Delino DeShields, Jr. laid down a safety squeeze that plated Aplin and tied the game at two. Another unearned run came across in the fifth. Telvin Nash ripped a one-out double, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and score on an error committed by second baseman Adam Buschini. San Antonio has committed at least one miscue in 12 of its last 13 games.

The Hooks piled on after Geer exited the game. DeShields delivered a two-out, two-run single to left in the eighth and Telvin Nash demolished a ball into the gusting wind in right-center field for a two-run home run in the ninth to build a five-run cushion.

Tyson Perez followed Rollins on the mound for the Hooks and allowed just one baserunner in the last three innings - a leadoff walk to Buschini in the ninth. The Missions had just two men reach base after the first inning.

The tandem of Luis Cruz (4-5, 3.71) and Mike Hauschild (1-1, 3.48) will take the hill for Corpus Christi in game two of the series Monday at 7:05 PM, while San Antonio counters with Leonel Campos (0-2, 3.72) in the final game of the first half.
