CORPUS CHRISTI - Luke Jackson allowed one run over six innings as Frisco edged Corpus Christi 3-2 Saturday at Whataburger Field before 5,455.
Jackson (3-0) limited the Hooks to four hits and walked one while striking out six. His pitch count reached 94, 59 of which were strikes.
Matt West notched his third save of 2014, working the final 1 2/3.
At 15-7, the RoughRiders hold a two-game lead over Corpus Christi in the Texas League South Division. They've won 14 of their last 17.
Frisco wasted a one-out double by Drew Robinson in the second as Brady Rogers recovered with ground-ball outs from Ryan Rua and Tomas Telis.
The Hooks didn't. Leo Heras' two-bagger to left-center gave Corpus Christi a league-leading 41. Heras stole third and ran the last 90 feet on Joe Sclafani's singled to right.
Rodgers stranded two more RoughRiders two innings later. Jordan Brown walked and Trever Adams singled with one away, but Rodgers caught Robinson looking at a called third strike before second baseman Nolan Fontana ranged behind the keystone and threw out Rua.
Frisco used two bunt singles and a high chopper over Sclafani at third to load the bases with no outs while forging a 2-1 fifth-inning lead. Telis tallied when Rougned Odor hit into a 4-6-3 double play. Jake Smolinski then delivered a single up the middle, sending Edwin Garcia homeward.
Jackson used a 97-mph pitch to whiff Chris Epps in the home half as the Hooks left two. Corpus Christi manager Keith Bodie was ejected when he took exception to a dual warning when Jackson's inside pitch grazed Rene Garcia.
Rua's fifth home run on a wind-aided, full-count fastball just beyond the reach of left fielder Heras put Frisco up by two and ended Rodgers' night after 5 2/3 innings. Rodgers (1-2) yielded seven hits, walked one and struck out five during an 85-pitch effort.
Epps' one-out double to right chased Garcia home from second and reliever Jimmy Reyes to the showers as Corpus Christi pulled to within a run in the eighth. Garcia stroked a lead-off single to right that was misplayed by Robinson.
Alex Sogard and Travis Ballew kept Frisco off the board over the final 2 1/3.
Fontana owns a seven-game hitting streak, Heras has hit in five straight. Rua extended his hitting streak to eight.
Aaron West (2-0) toes the rubber for Corpus Christi Sunday at 1:10 against Kyle Lotzkar (0-1). The first 1,250 kids 12-&-under receive a Hooks Orange Button-Down Jersey from Coca-Cola. It's also H-E-B Kids Day, so youngsters run the bases postgame.
