Hooks Drop 2nd Straight to Rough Riders, 4-3

CORPUS CHRISTI - Ryan Rua led off the ninth with his second home run in as many games as Frisco nicked Corpus Christi 4-3 Sunday at Whataburger Field before 6,498.

Rua's first-pitch heroics made a loser of Jorge De Leon (1-1) and spoiled 5 1/3 innings of scoreless relief by the Hooks bullpen, including two from Patrick Urckfitz.

They also made a winner of Francisco Mendoza (1-0), who walked three over two scoreless frames. Wilmer Font earned his third save, sending Corpus Christi to its 10th defeat - the eighth by a single run.

Frisco won Sunday on a 92-degree afternoon despite its charity: 11 walks by RoughRiders pitching to none issued by the Hooks. Corpus Christi's challenge was performance with runners in scoring position; 1-for 12 and 14 stranded.

Jordan Brown's fourth home run, a two-out shot into the right-field bullpen, staked Frisco to a 1-0 first-inning advantage.
Corpus Christi quickly answered during a 31-pitch turn at bat. Chris Epps began with a single to left and proceeded around the diamond on a stolen base, balk and Andrew Aplin's RBI ground out. The Hooks left the bases loaded when Kyle Lotzkar fanned M.P. Cokinos.

Lotzkar walked two in the frame and shortstop Edwin Garcia committed a throwing error.

Trever Adams broke the deadlock during the third, his third round-tripper clearing the left-field wall. Adams' blast was the first of four two-out hits as Brown, Jake Smolinski and Drew Robinson subsequently singled, Robinson picking up an RBI to make it 3-1.

Hooks starter Aaron West, who exited the contest after facing Brown, turned the game over to Andrew Robinson. Robinson went on to track 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
Lotzkar registered three complete innings, two hits, three walks and a strikeout over 67 pitches.

Corpus Christi then took a run back off Ryan Bores, Jio Mier's two-out blooper to shallow center lost in the sun by second baseman Rougned Odor. The nature-aided safety plated Leo Heras (lead-off walk) from third base.
