CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks are headed to the Texas League playoffs! Corpus Christi defeated San Antonio 5-2 Saturday night to clinch their first playoff appearance since 2006.
"Finally we did it," outfielder Jake Goebbert said. "It's a sense of accomplishment and something we have been working for all year."
The Hooks have posted the best record thus far in the second half of the Texas League at 39-22, and a 76-55 overall record. The 76 wins match a franchise record set by the last Hooks team to reach the postseason in '06.
"We're going to keep our head down and keep playing baseball," outfielder Austin Wates. "We still want to win the (overall record) and we have Frisco right behind us."
The Hooks will open the playoffs in the South Division series against Frisco. Corpus Christi will play at home for the third game of that series on Friday, September 7th, and then the fourth and fifth games if necessary.
"It's a great feeling," first baseman Jon Singleton said. "Nothing is better. It's a lot of fun."
