CORPUS CHRISTI - Police say a man was shot in the shoulder when he walked in on a burglary in progress this afternoon. It happened on Deforrest off Staples, near Kostoryz.
Police say the homeowner's wife admitted she left the home unlocked when she went to a convenience store. The husband, identified by family members as Nick Kelley, came home to find the front door of his house open and was shot by a ski mask wearing man who was carrying Kelley's own weapon.
Kelley was shot once in the shoulder before the guy dropped the gun and ran off. His wife soon showed up and drove Kelley to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, cops showed up to the home with assault rifles trying to track down the shooter.
Officers are also with Kelley at the hospital trying to get a description of the guy. Kelley lives at the home with his wife and two kids luckily, they were not around at the time.
Family members tell us the house was ransacked but police aren't sure if it's from a struggle or from the burglary. The good news family members say Kelley is expected to be okay.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5'8" - 6' tall, brown eyes, white shirt, blue jeans.
