ARANSAS COUNTY - The Aransas County Sheriff's Office says a man who helped out two guys in need of gas for their car ended up shooting at them when they came back later to rob him. Officials say he knows one of the guys because they'd done some work for him in the past.
Deputies say Johnathan Triplett and Corey Waldrip went to his home sometime after getting gas from the good samaritan. He'd already gone back to bed for some reading when he was alerted by sound of his dogs barking before dawn on Sunday morning.
He answered the door with a pistol in hand and immediately recognized the two guys he had just helped. Deputies say one of the would-be robbers was armed with a .22 caliber pistol.
The unarmed guy took off running while the guy with the gun stayed where he was and ended up being shot in the neck by the homeowner.
The homeowner called 911 right after the shooting.
Deputies called in the DPS helicopter to find one guy hiding in some nearby brush. The would-be robber with the gunshot wound made it all the way to Port Aransas where he was picked up in a traffic stop.
Jonathan Triplett is already out of the hospital and will soon be in the Aransas County Detention Center with Corey Waldrip. Both are charged with aggravated robbery.
