Home is Lost in Severe Fire

CORPUS CHRISTI - A fire started around 4:00 Saturday afternoon on Louisiana St. near Alameda.

Heavy smoke could be seen for miles in the downtown area. Neighbors say no one was inside when the fire started, but the house is a complete loss.

This man was driving by before fire crews got there. He even saw the flames reach the house.

"I was just driving by in the area, and then i saw the flame on the side of the house, on the right side, by a big pile of trash. And then all of a sudden, it started going on the house, just engulfing the house in less than 5 minutes," said bystander, Felix Rojas.

The Red Cross will help find this family a place to stay tonight. One firefighter was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No word yet on what started the fire.
