CORPUS CHRISTI -- A standoff on Holmes Drive late Wednesday afternoon ended with a man getting arrested after he was tasered.
The man, who neighbors said is William Bryant, 37, refused to come outside his house after police responded to the address for an assault call. He then threatened police officers with a pipe before flashing a handgun.
Authorities called SWAT to assist, but the man was arrested before they arrived. After throwing a folding chair at police officers, the man was tasered and wrestled to the ground.
Bryant's neighbor, Debbie Garcia, said he is deaf which may be the reason he was combative with police. "I know it looks bad right now, but how he's been in the past that's not like him."
Bryant is charged with making terroristic threats on a public servant, a third-degree felony. But authorities said additional charges are likely.
A few police officers suffered minor injuries, including lacerations and a swollen knee, while wrestling the man to the ground, but are expected to be okay.
Police said it is still unclear what happened at the house before they arrived.
