CORPUS CHRISTI - A popular downtown hotel is now under new managements and a new brand. The sale of the Omni Marina happened in December and visible change is starting to take place. What once was a Marriott, became an Omni and now there are signs of change yet again.

"Omni thought it was, they wanted to diversify into other markets and they thought it was the right time to focus on just one hotel," Ajit Daivid, managing partner.

David and his business partner purchased the hotel back in December. Since then they've worked to transform the Omni Marina Hotel to reflect the new Holiday Inn brand.

The Holiday Inn sign as already been put up outside and now changes inside the hotel are slowly starting to come along and within a year they say all should be complete.

Not only are the new hotel owners excited about this change, Corpus Christi's Convention and Visitors Bureau is too.

"Any improvement will make it that much more valuable to the community that much more pleasant and accessible to visitors. And I know they are going to spend money in it and I know their key is to make it a one of a kind in this community," says Keith Arnold, Corpus Christi's Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO.

Arnold sees these changes as being a big selling point for conventions.

"Any upgrade or expansion in our properties makes us a better destination to sell," says Arnold.

"Guests have more choices now previously it was just one brand they can pick out from. Now they have two brands. So I think the winner in this all is the guest and the consumer," says David.

This once partnering Omni Hotel will now become a competitor. Despite the change of ownership, there were no layoffs.
