KINGSVILLE, Texas - The Texas A&M-Kingsville 2014Recruiting Class in football grew to 15 on Friday with the addition of two more signees to the roster head coach David Callaway announced.
Paul Matthews, a 5-7, 150-pound quarterback-running back-wide receiver, joins the Javelinas out of Lehman High School. Also a letterman in track, Matthews earned academic all-state second team and academic all-district honors.
The other addition is Denzell Bates of Cinco Ranch High School. Bates, who joins teammate Jaylen Hunter, is a 5-11, 195-pound running back. Bates lettered in football and track for two years. He was named all-district as a junior and senior and was his team's offensive MVP.

**Denzell Bates, RB, 5-11, 195, Katy, TX (Cinco Ranch HS)
Bates of Cinco Ranch High School is a 5-11, 195-pound running back. Bates lettered in football and track for two years. He was named all-district as a junior and senior and was his team's offensive MVP.
*Armando Castillo, OL, 6-3,285, Brownsville, TX (Lopez HS)
Castillo played football at Lopez High School in Brownsville for head coach Jason Starkey. He was a 2-year captain for the Lobos. Castillo earned second-team, all-district accolades and honorable mention all-district honors in his final two seasons. He is the son of Gabriela Castillo and Armando Castillo.
Joshua Cavazos, DT, 6-0, 280, Cibolo, TX (Steele HS)
Cavazos played football at powerhouse Cibolo Steele. He is the son of C.J. and Melba Cavazos.
Richard Cervantes, OL, 6-3, 275, Mission, TX (Sharyland HS)
Cervantes is a multi-sport athlete who played football for Ron Adame at Sharyland High School. He was a first-team all-district choice and first-team All-Valley choice in the trenches. Cervantes, who also competed in power-lifting and wrestling, will also compete in track for the Javelinas.
Aaron Harris, DT, 6-2, 320, Houston, TX (Bellaire HS)
Harris prepped at Bellaire High School where he was a 2-sport athlete. He played football for head coach Trey Sissom. On the golf course, Harris was the team MVP leading the team to the district title. He is the son of David and Sandra Harris.
Emond Hobbs, DB, 5-9, 165, Freeport, TX (Brazosport HS)
Hobbs played defensive back for head coach Fred Rudolph at Brazosport High School. He was an all-district selection at defensive back and was the district's Utility Player of the Year due to his versatility. He is the son of Melissa Dirzanowski.
Jaylen Hunter, ATH, 5-11, 190, Katy, TX (Cinco Ranch HS)
Hunter played for head coach Don Clayton at Cinco Ranch High School. He was a second-team all-district performer on defense helping his team to the playoffs in 2012 and 2013. He finished his senior season with 62 total tackles, 13 pass breakups and an interception. He is the son of Carla and Lewis Hunter.
Austin Lawrence, OL, 6-2, 305, Mico, TX (Taft HS)
Lawrence prepped at Taft High School in San Antonio where he played on the offensive line for Brian Davenport. He was named all-district, San Antonio Area All-Star and academic all-state. He lettered twice in track. He is the son of Mark and Marci Lawrence.
DeAnthony Lee, DB, 5-8, 175, San Antonio, TX (Wagner HS)
Lee was a defensive back at Wagner High School in San Antonio. He was coached by Charles Bruce. He was a first-team all-district selection as a senior. Lee is a sprinter on the Wagner track team reaching the state finals in the 5A 4x100m relay. He is the son of Carlton Lee.
*Dennis Johnson, WR, 6-3, 177, San Antonio, TX (Stevens HS)
Johnson was a two-sport athlete at Stevens High School in San Antonio. He played wide receiver for Darryl Hemphill earning all-district accolades twice in his career. Johnson also lettered in track. He is the son of Dennis and Heather Johnson.

Matthews joins the Javelinas out of Lehman High School where he was a successful skills position player seeing time at quarterback, running back and receiver. Also a letterman in track, Matthews earned academic all-state second team and academic all-district honors. He is the son of Paul and Michelle Matthews.
Jonathan Robinson, FS/P, 6-4, 200, San Antonio, TX (Brandeis HS)
Robinson is an all-around athlete that was an all-state punter at Brandeis High School in San Antonio, while also making a mark on the defensive side as a free safety. He played for head coach John Campbell. Robinson also lettered in track, soccer and basketball. He is the son of Marilyn and Dwight Robinson.
Blake Wesley, CB, 5-8, 150, Missouri City, TX (Ridge Point HS)
Wesley was a 3-sport letterwinner at Ridge Point High School. He played football for head coach Brett Sniffin earning second-team, all-district honors. In his two seasons with the football team he helped the team to two playoff appearances. He also played baseball and competed in track. He is the son of Joi and William Bishop.
Devonte Williams, FS, 6-1, 180, Sugar Land, TX (Travis HS)
Williams was a two-sport at athlete at Travis High School in Sugar Land. He played football for Randy Cunningham earning second-team all-district honors and was named the best defensive back on his team. Williams also lettered in basketball. He is the son of Kenneth and Karen Williams.
Kyle Williams, DB/WR, 6-2, 205, Crosby, TX (Crosby HS)
Williams played football at Crosby High School for coach Jeff Riordan. He earned first-team all-district honors as a senior and helped the team to the playoffs three-straight seasons. He also earned letters in track and baseball. He is the son of Calvin and Melony Williams.
2014 Junior College Transfers
Trey Mitchell, QB, 6-3, 188, Clovis, CA (Reedley College)
Mitchell comes to the Javelinas after two junior college seasons. He played as a sophomore at Reedley College where he threw for 1,445 yards as a senior with seven touchdowns in eight games. As a freshman, Mitchell played nine games at Fresno City College with nine touchdowns in nine games. In high school, Mitchell played for Rich Hammond at Clovis High School. He lettered three years in football and two in baseball. He is the son of Raymond and Angela Mitchell.
Joe Te'o, RB, 5-10, 210, Fairfield, CA (Diablo Valley Coll.)
Te'o is a transfer from Diablo Valley College where he played as a sophomore after one season at Santa Rosa Junior College. He prepped at De La Salle High School where he played for head coach Bob Ladouceur winning three consecutive titles while there.
Sione Tupouata, DE, 6-4, 290, Oakland, CA (Diablo Valley College)
Tupouata played in junior college for one season at Diablo Valley College in California for head coach Mike Darr after one season at Snow College. He had 55 tackles and six sacks in his season at Snow, while recording 58 tackles and four sacks this past season. He prepped at Fremont High School in Oakland where led team to the 2009 OAL Silver Bowl Championship. He was the MVP of the conference in 2009 and defensive MVP of the OAL in 2008.
Augafa Vaaulu, DT, 6-2, 310, Los Angeles CA (Long Beach City College)
Vaaulu was a second-team, all-conference defensive tackle at Long Beach City College where he played for coach Bret Peabody. He graduated from Warren High School in Los Angeles where he was a first-team all-league selection as senior helping his team to the second round of the playoffs. He is the son of Augafa and Queen Vaaulu.
Shawn Vasquez, RB, 5-10, 180, Discovery Bay, CA (Los Medanos JC)
Vasquez joins the Javelinas after two seasons at Los Medanos J.C. where he played for Chris Shipe. As a freshman, he ran for 846 yards on 123 carries and 10 touchdowns in nine games. He upped his yardage to 1,378 yards as a sophomore and 16 touchdowns. He was named all-league at running back and all-purpose. Vasquez helped the Los Medanos to a conference title as a sophomore. He is the son of Lawanda Burkhalter.
