High Speed Chase Leads to Search for Immigrants

ROBSTOWN - The search is on for at least three people who police believe to be undocumented immigrants, following a high-speed chase.

Officer Deleon said he wasn't expecting anything other than a routine traffic stop when he tried to pull the vehicle over for a missing light.

"That's when they accelerated, took off on me, and they got pretty fast," said Deleon.

Police say the chase reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour.

"They bottomed out, right by the library, had a blowout, and that's when they said about six or seven fled the vehicle," said Deleon.

He said police quickly rounded up three of the passengers, but at least three others ran into a nearby field.

"They're still out there right now. We got border patrol on the scene and hopefully we can capture the rest of them," said Deleon.

He said the most important thing is that no one was injured.

Officer Deleon also said that this is the third time he's been involved in an undocumented immigrant bailout in Robstown within the past two weeks.
