ROBSTOWN -- Tension was high...to say the least...at a Robstown Independent School District Board meeting today.
Board members discussed the ongoing search for a new superintendent.
This was the fourth meeting called by the Robstown School Board
and it is rather odd that they would call a meeting on a Saturday. Nonetheless, the school board met and it didn't take long before the shouting match began.
After several weeks of disagreeing on who should be hired to take over the job, today, the board first decided allow the new, incoming board to search for a new superintendent.
That decision got them a round of applause from the audience...but the good feelings wouldn't last.
Board President Osvaldo Romero made a motion to accept two new conditions to Dr. Leobardo Cano's contract and the audience wasn't happy.
The first condition would be that Cano will continue as superintendent until June 30, 2013, and the second condition is that the district can fire him whenever they want, but they would have to pay $60,000 to buy him out of his contract.
And some community members feel their thoughts onthe matter weren't heard.
"The community, the public was here to voice their opinion and the trustees who are voted in by that public had no regard for their trust," said Jesse Rojas.
For now, Cano will continue working for Robstown I.S.D and even though the new board might come in and want to fire him immediately, those new stipulations to his contract might keep the new board from making in hasty decisions.
