CORPUS CHRISTI - Thanks to the actions of former Hammerheads defensive lineman Eli Ibrahim, the team's backs are now up against the wall, in a must-win situation Saturday against San Angelo.
We all remember the melee in Robstown involving number 77 sucker-punching a referee after being tossed from the game in the first quarter.
But, since no one made him leave, making the whole sucker punch incident feasible, the league forced the Hammers to forfeit the game.
It was a decision Head Coach Roy Salas disagrees with, while at the same time takes sole responsibility for.
Coach Salas told KRIS 6 Sports, "I feel 100% responsible. I should have made sure that Eli was out. It was a rule that none of us knew and it's an unsaid rule, but we should have made sure he was in the locker room and that there wouldn't be any problems. But, I don't think it was premeditated at all. It was a mistake on everybody's part and me, as a coach, told the league it all starts with me. I should have made sure he was off the bench so something like that couldn't happen."
