GREGORY -- In what was the latest fallout from the city's financial crisis, city council members accepted the resignation of city auditor Noel Shedneker Monday night.
Mayor Pro-Tem Celestino Zambrano said both parties mutually agreed it was the best decision since the city can no longer afford to pay Shedneker after more than $140,000, or about 15 percent of the city's budget, went missing this summer.
Shedneker is typically paid $12,000 to audit the city, but he only completed $4,000 worth of work this year. He was unable to complete the audit because the city's financial records were out of order.
Zambrano said Shedneker may return in the future once the city's financial issues are resolved.
Gregory police are still investigating the missing funds.
