ORANGE GROVE -- A family of 8 lost everything in a house fire Wednesday morning but thankfully their grandma rescued everyone from the flames. There is nothing left of the home but the family is counting their blessings, thankful to be alive.

Neighbors say everyone is family in this town and they are doing what they can to help out. "They lost everything but there lives," Mary Ann Galvez said.

The flames engulfed the Perez home around 11 AM, neighbors say Grandma Silvia Perez was cooking breakfast when she saw the fire out the kitchen window.

"The grandmother was going in and out of the house trying to save them and she did but she got burned," Glavez said.

Perez rescued 6 people including 5 grandchildren that were sleeping and her own husband. Their mom was at the grocery store at the time, she came home to the devastation but despite that the family is thankful they still have each other.

Fire officials say everything in the entire 700 square foot home was burned, only a few pictures were saved. Friends and neighbors didn't hesitate to make calls and arrangements for the Perez family. Those folks also plan to start an account at Value Bank to help the family get back on their feet.

It took fire fighters 45 minutes to put out the monterous blaze and they spent another couple hours dousing hot spots. Officials believe the fire started with something smoldering near the front porch.

The family has been renting the home for more than 10 years and spend the next few weeks staying with loved ones until they can begin to rebuild everything they've lost.

The local thrift store in town open their doors to the family, to assist them in their time of need.
