CORPUS CHRISTI -- Governor Rick Perry on Wednesday appointed a Corpus Christi attorney to a state district court bench left vacant after the judge's suicide last month.
Governor Perry tapped criminal defense attorney David Stith to head the 319th State District Court. Stith, who previously served as the judge of County Court-At-Law 3, will replace longtime Judge Thomas Greenwell, who committed suicide in his courtroom chambers July 15.
Stith, who is a partner at Stith and Cassidy, was appointed to the county court bench in November 2011, but lost his re-election bid to challenger Deeanne Galvan last November.
Retired state judge Jack Hunter has been filling in since Greenwell's death.
