Golfers Hit The Links in John Paul Barta Tournament.

CORPUS CHRISTI- Dozens of golfers took to the greens of the Oso Bay Golf Course Saturday morning, and all for a good cause.

The annual John Paul Barta Golf Tournament is a fundraiser that awards scholarships to area youth.

John Barta was a star athlete at Flour Bluff High School before he was killed in Iraq in 2007 while serving his country.

The Barta foundation has given thousands of dollars in scholarships to area youth over the last few years.

For Brian McManus, John's childhood friend and now a main organizer, this tournament is a reflection of who John was,

"He would love the fact that we are honoring him, but he would certainly not want this to happen because he was such an incredible athlete, but he didn't want the attention, the attention is warranted, none the less because he was such a great human being."

Over $1,500 in scholarships were given away on Friday during a home run derby.
