Golden Millennium Olympics to Celebrate Grandparents Day on Sep. 8

CORPUS CHRISTI - The City of Corpus Christi's Park & Recreation Advisory Committee is hosting a Grandparents Day on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 8am to 1pm at West Guth Park (9725 Up River Road).
The Golden Millennium Olympics is a celebration of Grandparents Day which provides an opportunity to bring together the City, community, and families. There will be many outdoor activities for families to participate in together-something for everyone and all ages. Come and enjoy the wonderful outdoors in one of our local parks.
Grandparents and grandchildren ages 5-12 are invited to participate in five team events. Each team will consist of one grandparent and one grandchild. Competition events are: 1) sports skills challenge; 2) relay; 3) bocce; 4) tennis; and 5) marbles. Marbles with game rules can be found at your local H-E-B Store.
REGISTRATION: Team registration fee is $30. Registration will be held August 27-September 5, 2012 (closed Labor Day September 3), Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm at City Hall (1201 Leopard St.), 3rd Floor, Parks & Recreation Department. The last opportunity to register will be offered on the day of event from 7am-7:45am at the Northwest Senior Center, located in West Guth Park.
Proceeds from this event, after all expenses are paid, will benefit at-risk children through the Meals on Wheels program. This program is designed to teach school-aged children how to plant and cultivate vegetables which will be used to prepare nutritious meals for them-to enjoy the fruits of their labor.
