CORPUS CHRISTI - Lifting the gas nozzle in the new year is harder and harder for Julie. "It breaks into my food really," Julie Christian, aCorpus Christi Resident explains.
She is struggling to make ends meet, literally. "I don't even barely make enough to feed myself right now... and my husband. I am the only one working. Yea it is really, really hard,"Julie Christian says.
Hard to fill not only her empty stomach, but her gas tank. In the first two months of the year gas prices have jumped over thirty cents.
According to our records, every time someone lifted the gas handle between the 25th and February 8th, prices went up from $3.05 to $3.38.
Some places are even $3.65. The culprit? The rise in crude oil and the shutdown of refineries for maintenance. That is the majority of what you are paying for at the pump..
"It will last about a week but I never have enough so I do five at a time which is what? Almost a gallon and a half or something," Julie Christian says.
And that five dollars her brother-in-law loaned her today. Adela Olivarez says she isn't struggling to eat. She too has to balance her budget everyday.
"That is where we are at right now. It is not about how much it is to fill up it is about how much do you have today to fill it up," Adela Olivarez says.
