Gas Glitch Gathers Guzzlers To Pump

CORPUS CHRISTI - Some drivers in Corpus Christi got an early Christmas gift - cheap gas, really cheap.
You don't usually see long lines at the pump like this unless a hurricane is headed for town.
But for a few minutes Saturday evening, folks lined up around the block when they got word that the Stripes/Valero on Staples at Annapolis was selling unleaded plus gasoline for only 31 cents a gallon.
"A friend told me about it," one man said. I'm told when someone noticed the super low price for gas, he phoned his whole family and several friends to tell them about the computer glitch.
"That the gas was 30 cents for mid-grade, that something was wrong with the tanks," one woman said. I asked, "So what did you do?" "I got in my car and I came down! I need gas," she replied, laughing.
This cell phone footage shows the line as it wrapped around the building, as everyone who got the message came running. But it wouldn't last. After only 5 minutes of chaos, the store managers noticed the unusually long line and shut down the pumps. Until the price could be corrected. Meaning only a few people got away with very cheap gas.
"Heck yeah! I need gas! I only have a quarter of a tank," she said.
Many of them turned around and headed home once they learned their window of opportunity had closed, leaving the store managers to figure out what caused the glitch and make sure that doesn't happen again.
We're told the error was only up for 5 minutes. Managers say the gas prices are controlled by corporate and the computer systems are all connected so they're not sure if the glitch occurred at other locations as well.
