CORPUS CHRISTI - A wanted gang member was arrested Thursday night after a brief police chase that ended with a nasty wreck.
It began with a disturbance involving a possible abduction. An officer responding to the disturbance spotted the suspect's vehicle on Everhart at McArdle.
The officer tried to pull over the car, but the driver sped off, and made it just south of SPID before smashing into a truck and a light pole.
The driver then tried to flee on foot, but was captured in a nearby parking lot. It turns out no one was abducted after all, but the driver was arrested on charges related to the pursuit.
Police say Joe Adam Ramirez, 39, is a known gang member. He's charged with evading arrest, drug possession, a parole violation and failure to stop and render aid.
One of his passengers, Ruben Ramirez, 18, is charged for carrying a switchblade knife. Another passenger, Laura Lee Woodson, 30, was taken to jail on a oustanding warrant for driving without a license.
A pregnant 15-year-old was also in the car. Police did not say if she's facing any charges.
