Game Rooms Possibly Tipped Off About Raids

SAN PATRICIO COUNTY - Sheriff Leroy Moody says something wasn't right about Friday night's raid. He says it looked like the game rooms got tipped off.

"I think all of them did, just prior to the time the officers arrived because they were flying out of there like flies," said Sheriff Moody.

He says the game rooms that weren't closed had both customers and employees trying to escape.

"So they were running the customers off and they had been instructed to pull the money and get out. But they didn't make it," said Sheriff Moody.

Despite their attempts to get away 10 people were arrested. Moody says they all either owned or worked at one of the game rooms. The Sheriff confiscated the buildings and everything inside. Sheriff Moody says they seized close to one thousand slot machines in those 8 game rooms.

Those game rooms include... Monte Carlo in Aransas Pass, Silver Game Room and Jack's Place in Mathis, Game Works and Lap of Luxury in Gregory, and Golden City Pot of gold and Diamond Amusement in Odem.

Close to $90,000 was confiscated from those businesses. There are 3 game rooms still open, and because of that the sheriff says there were rumors that he was somehow involved with those game rooms. But Moody says that is in no way true.

"I have an uncle in East Texas who is in the business, but not me. You're not gonna find a more honest person than I am," said Sheriff Moody.

The Sheriff plans to close those game rooms, if they don't close their doors.
