PORTLAND - Mammoth Gregory-Portland offensive lineman Chance Vernon has made a verbal commitment to play college football for Stephen F. Austin University. The 6-7, 335-pound senior played strong tackle for a Wildcat offense that rushed for 3,770 yards this season and was named the District 30-4A's Most Valuable Offensive Lineman. He recorded 45 pancake blocks.

A number of Big 12 schools showed interest, but Vernon is going to a place where he'll have a chance to play right away.
