WACO, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a fugitive found sitting in a car was fatally shot by a U.S. deputy marshal when he appeared to reach for a weapon.
Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton says 30-year-old Transcini Richerson had been sought since December on warrants for felony strangulation and a parole violation. He had prior convictions for deadly conduct, possession of drugs, and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
U.S. marshals tracked him Monday afternoon to a residential neighborhood in Waco. Authorities say as officers approached, Richerson ignored orders to show his hands. When he reached down in the car, the deputy marshal shot him multiple times in fear that he may have a weapon. Swanton said Tuesday he could not confirm if Richerson was armed.
He later died at a hospital.
