HALLANDALE BEACH - A police chase and wrong-way crash ended with four people dead on I-95 early Wednesday in South Broward County.
The crash happened around 1 a.m. on I-95 south of Hallandale Beach Boulevard.
According to preliminary information from the Florida Highway Patrol, Opa-locka police were pursuing a Suburban SUV when the driver got onto I-95 at Ives Dairy Road, traveling northbound in the southbound lanes.
The wrong-way SUV then crashed into a minivan at Hallandale Beach, killing four people inside, according to a preliminary report from FHP. The suspect was taken to the hospital with two broken legs.
Opa Locka Police officials told CBS4′s Natalia Zea that the suspect threw a gun out the window on I-95 before crashing into the van.
All southbound lanes are shut down, BSO said. Southbound traffic must exit Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the FHP said. Northbound lanes are not affected.
