DALLAS (AP) - A judge has sentenced a Fort Worth man to 15 years in prison for knowingly infecting a woman with the HIV virus.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Jimmy Bernard Billingsley had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury.
He admitted knowing since 2008 that he was HIV-positive but still having unprotected sex with a woman he was dating in 2009.
Billingsley had faced up to 20 years in prison. The Tarrant County District Attorney's Office reported Monday that state District Judge Robb Catalano settled on 15 years.
Prosecutors said Billingsley admitted to being intimate on numerous occasions with a woman he met in 2009.
The woman later learned she was HIV-positive and called police because Billingsley was the only man with whom she'd had sex.
